Please check the specific branch location page for local branch updates. We are assessing this daily and will make changes as and when they are required by government regulations. If your Cheapa Campa branch is closed, we will contact you directly (or via your travel agent) to discuss your options.
To aid with social distancing and reduce contact with our team while COVID-19 is a health concern, Cheapa Campa has introduced limited contact vehicle collection processes. Our rental agreement and other documentation can be emailed to guests and our ‘How To’ videos provide a great overview of how to use your camper or motorhome. Make sure you download the ApolloConnect app to access these convenient resources while you’re on the road.
You are welcome to return your vehicle as early as you want. Under these circumstances, no refunds will be given for the unused portion of your vehicle hire.
You can return your campervan, motorhome or 4WD camper to any Cheapa Campa branch. When forced to change your drop off location due to travel bans or borders being closed, we won’t charge a change of location fee.
If you made a booking with Cheapa Campa through a travel agent and that booking has now been impacted by COVID-19, you will need to contact your travel agent directly.
If you need to change your booking due to an imposed travel ban we have several options available:

At Cheapa Campa, we want you to stay safe on your road trip. All 2WD rental vehicles must stay on sealed roads. The only exception to this policy is well maintained access roads that are shorter than 10kms and lead to a recognised campground. Please refer to our Terms and Conditions for more information about travel restrictions that apply.
There are restrictions on where you can drive our 4WD vehicles in Australia and we recommend that you always drive to the conditions and within your experience level. There are also certain roads that require you to obtain permission from Cheapa Campa before travelling on them as well as roads that are completely off limits.
All Cheapa Campa branches accept credit card or debit card for rental charges. Cash payments are not accepted.
Your vehicle bond can only be paid by credit card. You cannot pay your bond using a prepaid card.
All guests are required to pick up and drop off during the hours specified for each branch.
Drivers must be 21 years to hire a Cheapa Campa campervan or motorhome.
All drivers are required to show their driver licence to the branch, in person, prior to driving the vehicle. We prefer that drivers show their licence at pick up, however if that’s not possible, drivers may visit the branch prior to pick up and show their driver licence to a Cheapa Campa team member.
A current and full motor vehicle driver licence is required to be shown at pick up and the driver must be present at pick-up. If the driver licence is not in English then we require an accredited English translation or an International Driver Permit.
All drivers must be aged 21 or over and have held a full unrestricted licence for more than 2 years. The driver licence must be valid for the entire duration of your vehicle rental.
Our motorhomes and campervans don’t have bike racks. Bikes may be stored inside the motorhome, however we request that bikes are stored in bike bags to avoid any damage to the interior of the motorhome.
The battery system will provide power for between 12 - 20 hours when fully charged depending on use.
Our vehicles operate on ancillary battery systems which power internal appliances such as the fridge, lights, media player and water pump.
The batteries only recharge when connected to mains power or will trickle charge when driving the vehicle. We recommend that the vehicle is plugged into Mains power every 2 nights. Idling the engine won't provide enough power to recharge the house battery.
When you are connected, all equipment automatically runs on mains power rather than the battery. Appliances such as the microwave, rear air-conditioning and power points only run on mains power. Television may run either on 240v (mains power) or 12v (battery power).
For the 12 Volt system to work, the 12 Volt main switch must be in the 'on' position. All vehicles can be connected to 240 Volt mains power via the supplied 15 Amp extension lead with a large earth pin. All approved caravan park circuits are rated at 15 amps.
Vehicles can be requested by vehicle category, however we cannot guarantee a particular vehicle layout, make or model.
All 2WD vehicles for Cheapa Campa are automatic transmission. 4WD vehicles are manual. Please refer to the vehicle description to check whether your preferred vehicle is automatic or manual.
At Cheapa Campa, we’re happy for your pet dog to go on holiday with you but we do charge a pet fee of $200. For more information visit here.
Our vehicles do not come with Wi-Fi.
All Cheapa Campa motorhomes and campers are less than 4.5 tonnes and can be driven by overseas licence holders.
Most of the 2WD motorhomes and campervan rentals come with unlimited kilometres. 4WD vehicles and relocations have a daily kilometre allowance. For more info on this, please see our terms & conditions.
Yes. Should you choose standard liability or liability reduction option 1, the bond will be debited and a bond administration fee will apply. The bond can range from $1,500 to $8,000. Please review our liability reduction options, which can be found in our terms and conditions.
If you have chosen liability reduction option 2 (VIP cover), a credit card imprint of $100-$300 will occur at time of pickup. This means that the relevant amount will be “held” from your funds without being debited from your account.
You are welcome to call us or email us and we will be in touch to explain this further.

Please follow government advice and check with individual parks regarding whether they can offer you a safe place to stay at this time.
ApolloConnect allows you to search and book campgrounds/holiday parks while on the road, as well as access great deals on local attractions.

When driving a rental vehicle in Australia, you are responsible for paying toll fees, so it is important to be aware of these roads before you travel. Fees and charges to travel via toll roads vary by state. You are likely to pass through toll roads if you are driving your campervan through metropolitan Queensland, New South Wales or Victoria.
Cheapa Campa will pass on any charges you receive for traffic infringements, toll ways or parking fines during your road trip. A fee of $75 per toll fine received may be charged to cover associated administration costs. We recommend purchasing our toll package which can be viewed in the terms and conditions.
